her morning "inception"

this is going to be a bit of a read but...

i was supposed to be in kickboxing class this morning but as some of you know, i've volunteered at kcrw for a number of years and last night was my night. anyway, got home late, piddled around the house, got to bed after midnight and when the alarm went off at 6a...you can guess what happened.

i was going to write this post last night but i'm actually happy i didn't. i had some crazy dreams this morning and fortunately, i remembered a couple of the details (i've been attempting to do this more).

i can't remember much but i was bike riding through brooklyn, i remember seeing wet train tracks--some broken..some ongoing, dilapidated buildings and then i hit this one neighborhood that was a super cute, up & coming neighborhood with musical instrument stores on every corner. after that, i biked in to this open area where people were congregating, laughing and talking and ended up having a conversation with this homeless kid. he was dehydrated, had small marks on his face, sweet yet wary and still in school. he looked like he might have a slight drug problem but it hadn't taken a hold yet. we had an interesting conversation about life.

his circumstances were such that his father wasn't around, his mother had a drug problem and was neglectful but he had two female teachers who looked after him and lived in the area. they were standing on a staircase, chatting with other people as he walked over to get a care package, along with food and his homework. it was an interesting dream and although i interacted with the teen, i didn't with the teachers. in fact, i observed them from afar, we noticed one another, they waved and i smiled but that was the extent of our interaction since i hadn't got off my bike. and then i woke up. weird, right? well, the dream moods site thinks so as well...let's take a look, shall we?

first, i'm not sure what you're assuming but i need to state a couple of details before i break down this dream: the group of people in the public space were predominantly black, the teenager and the teachers were white. i think some people may unconsciously assume that if i'm riding around bk near dilapidated buildings and there are people involved, including a teenager with a drug habit who is fatherless...

i'm sure that's my subconscious making the point that neither the teenager or teachers looked uncomfortable or felt out of place and that socio-economic issues i witnessed are universal. and while some groups are affected more than others, if we saw one another in one another, if we saw one another as individuals as opposed to one person representing an entire group, maybe we wouldn't have the issues that we do. or maybe i'm still pissed about dr. laura and white privilege. but i digress.

so to break down the symbolism:

bike riding: to dream that you are riding a bicycle, signifies your desires to attain a balance in your life. you need to balance work and pleasure in order to succeed in your current undertaking.

brooklyn: if you do not live in new york, but dream that you are in new york, then it symbolizes your fast paced lifestyle. perhaps things are moving too fast and you are unable to keep up with the demands of everyday life. alternatively, the dream represents your desires for more excitement in your life. or you are striving for success in your professional career. known as "the big apple, dreaming of new york city could mean that you need to eat a more healthy diet.

water: to see water in your dream, symbolizes your unconscious and your emotional state of mind. water is the living essence of the psyche and the flow of life energy. it is also symbolic of spirituality, knowledge, healing and refreshment. to see calm, clear water in your dream, means that you are in tune with your spirituality. it denotes serenity, peace of mind, and rejuvenation.

*the water was clear, btw. in fact, i could see the sky in it. and yes even the sky means something but i don't feel laying it all out.

railroad: to see a railroad in your dream, indicates that you have laid out a set track toward achieving your goals. your progress will be slow but steady. you are well disciplined and secure in your life. alternatively, the dream indicates that you may be too linear and rigid in your thinking. sometimes you need to go off track and explore other possibilities. to see an obstruction on the railroad, refers to the obstacles standing in your way toward your goals. it may also mean that you have lost track of your goals.

buildings: to see a building in your dream, represents the self and the body. how high you are in the building indicates a rising level of understanding, awareness or success. if you are in the lower levels of the building, then it refers to more primal attitudes and/or sexuality.
to see a building in ruins or damaged, indicates that your approach toward a situation or relationship is all wrong. you need to change. your own self-image may have suffered and taken some blow.

musical instruments: to see musical instruments in your dream, indicate the expectation of fun and pleasures. you are focused on enjoying life and all that it has to offer. the dream also represents your talents and your ability to communicate with others. certain musical instruments are symbolic of sexual organs and thus point to your sexuality.

people: to see people you don't know in your dream, denotes hidden aspects of yourself that you need to confront or acknowledge.

woman: to see a woman in your dream, represents nurturance, passivity, caring nature, and love. it refers to your own female aspects or your mother. alternatively, a woman indicates temptation and guilt.

food: to see food in your dream, represents physical and emotional nourishment and energies. the different types of food can symbolize a wide range of things. generally, fruit is symbolic of sensuality. frozen foods may imply your cold emotions and frigid ways. eating certain foods also refers to qualities that you need to incorporate within your own self

so what does this all mean? hmmm. that i'm an out of whack, busy yet boring individual who is goalless, has a poor self image yet a sex-crazed writing serial killer in waiting who's possibly frigid but lest you worry, i'm in touch with my spirituality!

this video and song seemed apropos after all of this. one of my favorite albums from last year...

full disclosure:
i am not elegant in the morning. in fact, i often resemble
