touch my political correctness...

i died a little.

but the second i laughed, i felt like shit. some of you might be giving me the *blank stare* right now, others might say, "you got some 'splainin to do."

so forgive the connundrum but to my asian brethen, is this racist? because the first thought i had as i watched homegirl (yes, i said homegirl) do her rendition of "touch my body" is...no you didn't pick mariah. and you're serious about it.
(*disclaimer, huge mariah fan...and serious about it so i appreciate this on so many levels. deep, i know).

then i thought, wait, there are lyrics?

followed by, who added visual props?!

then i laughed at how clever it was to type out nonsense lyrics and while processing this thought, i got the *record skips* face fell and thought, oh wait...

so of course, i had to retrace my steps and ask, if this were someone black and it tied in to (insert cultural stereotype) would this be funny? and for the cherry on top, would this be funny if a non-black friend posted it?

if this were a video poking fun at the jewish culture, would it be antisemitic or would it be, "oh, someone really pegged a part of our culture?"

and therein lies the rub. because yes, i think this is funny but maybe it's because i'm looking at this person as an individual with a thick accent as opposed to an individual that represents my friends, their families and asians at large. but i'm critically thinking after all, can't say the same for a lot of people on this planet.

we can all laugh at ourselves, we can always laugh at others. some people have a huge problem with other's "sensitivities", being "pc", etc but i like to err on the side of caution, simply out of respect. and also because i hate the way certain shit feels my damn self.

*steps off soap box*
